1. Appearance is everything

She probably has gone pre-date shopping, changed her outfit a million times, has spent way too much time applying makeup and doing her hair and now looks like a million bucks. It is only fair for you to put some effort into your appearance as well. Be yourself and make sure you are comfortable in the clothes that you are wearing, but maybe leave the sweatpants and the worn-down sneakers at home. Though that may be your regular outfit, if you want to impress a girl, the first step is to make sure the first impression is the right one.

2. Buy her a gift

Though not at all necessary, it it always nice to receive gifts. If you want to show that you are considerate a good way to impress a girl on the first date is by bringing her a small gift. It may sound a little cheesy, but there has never been a girl who did not like getting flowers. If you want to be a little bit more original, think of a gift that she in particular may like. Or give her a gift that shows a bit of your personality or skillset. Maybe you are a great baker, then you may bring her a cupcake or a pie. If you are both Starwars fans, why not bring her a little Starwars gadget? 

3. Take the lead

A woman wants a man to show that he is assertive. An assertive man will take you on adventures and will give your life that little extra. Taking the lead does not mean telling her what to do, but it means trying to figure out what she would like to do and then proposing it to her. It is also common for men to take the lead when it comes to saying goodbye on the first date. Make sure to bring her home if she does not mind that and try to figure out whether you should give her a hug or a kiss.

4. Listen

There is nothing as annoying as a date who can only talk about himself. The objective of a first date is to get to know each other, not to just listen to someone’s life story without sharing any of your own experiences. If you want to impress her, don’t brag about yourself. Let her ask you questions about the things she wants to know and ask her questions about herself as well. Listen as she shares with you her personal stories and make sure not to interrupt her as she speaks. Listening is very important on a first date, even if that means that you won’t be able to impress her with all your cool travel stories and stories about your personal accomplishments.

5. Do not talk about your ex

Though you might think of you ex a couple of times will talking about subjects such as love and relationships, it is best to keep her as far away out of the conversation as possible. Your date is probably not interested in your ex at all and it may get a bit awkward. Even if you make the mistake of talking about your ex, make sure you don’t ever compare your date to your ex. The relationship with your ex-girlfriend is in the past – and there’s a reason for that.

6. Be a little mysterious

Why would someone want to go on a second date? Because she is interested in knowing more about you. This means that in order to keep her thinking about you, you should try to be a little mysterious. This doesn’t mean that you should start telling vague stories about past spiritual adventures, but it means that you don’t put all your cards on the table immediately. Share interesting stories about yourself and be careful with giving too many compliments. Keep her guessing, without giving her the feeling that you are not interested in her. And though honesty is very important when you are looking for love, the first date is not the occasion to share all your dirty little secrets yet.

7. Pay for the date

Paying for the date might not even be a way to impress a girl, but it may give a girl a bad feeling if you don’t do it. A girl likes to feel special and even though girls nowadays want to be treated equally, when it comes to dating there is nothing wrong with just being an old-fashioned gentleman. So, pay for the date, get her into her coat and hold the door for her as you leave the restaurant. If you keep these 7 tips in mind, you will definitely impress a girl on a first date!
